Under the third category of the Foundation’s themes the project aims to comprehend and explain the movements, interactions and transformation in Ottoman science, scholarly life and thought between the mid-17th to early 18th centuries. In this regard, the project plans to determine the extent to which dynamics of the period defined by scientific revolutions and transformations in European thought left new perspectives on the understanding of philosophy and logic within the Ottoman world. It also examines the rediscovery of philosophical heritage and its translation from another classical language, Latin to Arabic through the works of Yanyalı Esad Efendi. By that, it hopes to provide an in-depth assessment that will replace problems of over-generalizations and the lack of contextualization and will offer a comparative analysis of the field. The project is being funded by TUBITAK to be conducted by a large team led by YTU.
